Headlight Protection Film

Headlight Protection Film

Modern headlights are polycarbonate, and polycarbonate has two enemies: UV that slowly yellows the lens and stones that crack it. On cars with LED or matrix units, a cracked lens usually means replacing the entire assembly, which makes a layer of optically clear film very cheap insurance. We fit headlight film on its own or as part of a front end package. Call 1800 985 880 or text 0483 930 888 to add it to your booking. Separate guides cover Audi and Toyota.

Why Lenses Fail

Polycarbonate leaves the factory with a thin UV hardcoat that Australian sun grinds away over the years. Once it goes, the plastic underneath yellows and hazes, output drops and no amount of washing brings it back. Film keeps that hardcoat out of the sun entirely. There is a dedicated guide for Mazda.

What The Film Does

Headlight protection film is a UV blocking urethane layer that takes stone strikes, gravel rash and car wash scratches instead of the lens. It cuts the UV exposure that causes yellowing, so lenses stay clear years past their unprotected life.

The Replacement Maths

Older cars had cheap glass lamps. Current LED and matrix assemblies are sealed units priced like small holidays, and insurers know it. Protecting both lenses costs a fraction of one assembly, which is the whole argument in one sentence.

Optically Clear

The film we fit is optically clear and sits tight to the lens with wrapped edges, so beam pattern and output are unaffected. From a step away you cannot tell a filmed lens from a bare one, except the filmed one stays that way. There is more on prestige detailing if you want the specifics.

Skip The Smoked Film

Dark tinted headlight films exist and we get asked about them. Straight answer: they cut light output, can attract roadworthy trouble and we do not recommend them. Clear film gives the protection without touching visibility or compliance. The same work is set out for Tesla and EV protection.

Self Healing Surface

Like our body films, the headlight film top coat heals fine scratches with heat, so brush marks from careless washing disappear in the sun. The lens behind it never gets touched, which is what keeps output consistent as the car ages. The same work is set out for the Tesla Model S and supercar protection.

Fitted With Front PPF

Most headlight film goes on while we film a front end, since the lights sit in the middle of the work area anyway. It pairs naturally with a paint protection film package and adds no extra days to the booking. The same work is set out for the Porsche 911 and Ferrari.

While The Car Is In

Headlight film also books neatly alongside window tinting, one visit and the car leaves with glass and lenses both sorted. Get in touch with your model and we will confirm fit and timing. There are dedicated guides for the BMW M cars and Mercedes.

Common Questions

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers before you book. Anything else, call 1800 985 880.

Is headlight protection film worth it?

On any car with LED or matrix headlights, yes. One cracked lens costs more to replace than filming every light on the car, and the film also stops the UV yellowing that dims older cars.

Does the film reduce light output?

No. The film is optically clear and measured output through it is effectively unchanged. Dark smoked films are a different story, which is why we advise against them.

Will it yellow like old headlights do?

The film itself resists UV and is designed not to yellow, and if it ever degrades it peels off and gets replaced. The lens underneath stays sealed away from the sun the entire time.

Can film be applied to already hazy lenses?

The lenses need machine polishing first to restore clarity, then film locks in the result. That combination is the permanent version of the headlight restoration kits that fade in months.

Does PPF damage headlights?

Quality film professionally fitted does not. Problems come from bargain films and dry installs leaving adhesive residue. Our headlight film uses the same removal safe adhesive as our body films.
