Colour PPF or Traditional Vinyl Wrap?

Vinyl wrap is a cosmetic skin: thin, stretched over damage-prone panels, and easily nicked by the same stone that chips paint. Colour PPF is paint protection film with the colour built in, so the new look and the impact protection go on as one self-healing layer. Liquid R no longer offers vinyl wrap services. Every colour change we do uses the Spectra Colour PPF range from Defcon Films Australia, which wears like armour rather than a sticker.

Gloss Black PPF Roof

The panoramic roof look without a respray. Gloss black colour PPF over the roof skin, edges wrapped, done in a day. The film also takes the tree sap and bird droppings that ruin roof paint first.

Full Car Colour Transformation

Every painted panel refinished in DFA Spectra Colour PPF. Mirrors, handles and badges come off rather than get taped around, so the finish reads factory. Your original paint sits untouched underneath, which resale buyers pay for. That matters most on collectible metal like a Porsche 911.

PPF Ceramic Coating

A ceramic layer over the finished colour film. Water sheets off, road grime releases without scrubbing, and satin and matte finishes stay even because you never need to polish them. Applied in the same booking.

Finishes: Gloss, Satin, Matte and Flip

The Spectra range covers deep gloss, satin, true matte and colour flip films that shift tone with the light. Satin and matte need no polishing, ever, which makes them the practical pick for daily driven cars. Matte over a Ford Raptor is a popular combination.

Partial Colour Changes

Roof, mirrors, splitters, spoilers or a full accent package. Partial jobs use the same film and the same panels-off preparation, so a black pack holds up on a car that gets driven, not just parked. Popular on the BMW M2, M3 and M4.

How Colour PPF Goes On

Panels are decontaminated, trim comes off, and film goes on as precut patterns where they exist, most Mercedes and Mazda models included, and custom cut where they do not. Edges are wrapped, not trimmed on your paint. A full car takes about a week in the booth.

Colour PPF on Teslas and EVs

Thin factory paint and long waiting lists for resprays make EVs the most common colour change we see. Satin black and gunmetal over white Teslas lead the queue. The same treatment suits a new BYD. Details on our Tesla page.

Removal and Resale

Colour PPF peels back to reveal factory paint that has spent years protected from stone chips and UV. That is the difference from a respray: the change is reversible, and the car underneath is better than when it arrived. As true on a Ford daily as on anything exotic. Colour film care is on our aftercare page.

Warranty and Lifespan

Spectra Colour PPF carries a multi year manufacturer warranty against yellowing, cracking and delamination. Treated to a normal wash routine, expect seven to ten years of service from a quality colour film.

Common Questions

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers before you book. Anything else, call 1800 985 880.

How much does a colour change cost compared to a respray?

A full car colour transformation in Spectra Colour PPF starts at $6980. A quality respray in Melbourne typically runs higher once trim removal is done properly, takes longer, and permanently kills the factory finish. The film is also reversible.

Do I need to tell VicRoads if I change my car's colour?

Yes. Victorian registration records list vehicle colour, so a full colour change should be updated with VicRoads after the work. It is a simple online notification, and we can point you to the right form at handover.

How long does a full colour transformation take?

Around five to seven working days. Panels and trim come off, every edge is wrapped, and the car sits indoors for the full job. Partial work like a roof or mirror set is usually same day.

Does colour PPF damage the paint when it comes off?

No. On factory paint in sound condition, the film releases cleanly with heat and leaves the original finish behind, protected from years of UV and stone chips. Resprayed panels are assessed first, since aftermarket paint bonds differently.

Can I put colour PPF on a leased or financed car?

Yes, and it is one of the more sensible mods for a leased car because it is fully reversible. The car returns to its contract colour when the film comes off.

What happens if one panel gets damaged?

That panel’s film is removed and refitted on its own. Colour PPF is applied per panel, so a repair does not mean redoing the car, and batch matched film keeps the colour consistent.
