Stone Chip Protection

Car Stone Chip Protection

A stone the size of a pea leaving a truck tyre at freeway speed carries enough energy to punch through clear coat and leave bare metal showing. Melbourne’s east serves them up daily on EastLink, the Monash and every gravel shoulder in between. The fix is a urethane film that absorbs the strike before it reaches paint, fitted panel by panel to your exact car. Call 1800 985 880 or text 0483 930 888 to get your car protected. There are dedicated guides for Tesla and EV protection.

Where Chips Come From

Following distance only helps so much: stones get thrown sideways out of adjacent lanes, off resurfacing works and from gravel driveways. Bonnet leading edge, bumper and mirrors collect the most, which is why chip damage clusters on the first metre of the car. You will find the same detail for the Tesla Model S and supercar protection.

The Film Itself

Stone chip film is a flexible urethane originally developed to protect military helicopter rotor blades, later adopted for aircraft and phones before cars. It stretches under impact instead of shattering, absorbing the strike and healing surface scuffs with heat. There are dedicated guides for the Porsche 911 and Ferrari.

Front End Coverage

Bonnet, bumper, guards and mirrors filmed in about two days. This is the highest value coverage on any car that sees freeway kilometres, because it wraps the strike zone where nearly every chip lands. There are dedicated guides for the BMW M cars and Mercedes.

Whole Car Coverage

Full body film extends protection to doors, sills and the rear, which collect trolley scrapes, kicked up gravel and car park contact rather than freeway stones. About a week in the workshop and every painted panel is covered. Separate guides cover Audi and Toyota.

Small But Smart Pack

The wear and tear pack films door cups, door edges and the boot ledge. Not stone chip zones, but they are the scratches every car gets anyway, and covering them costs less than repainting a single door edge later. There is a dedicated guide for Mazda.

Ceramic On Top

A ceramic coating over the film keeps it slick, beading and easier to wash, so the protection stays invisible instead of collecting grime at the edges. Most front end jobs add it on the spot.

Chips Versus Respray

Once a panel is chipped the options are touch up dots or a respray, and resprayed panels rarely match metallic factory paint perfectly. Film costs less than repainting a bonnet and comes off years later with the original paint untouched underneath.

Best Fitted Early

The ideal time is before the first freeway run, while the paint has zero damage to seal in. That is exactly what our new car protection package is built around, film first, then coating, in three to four days.

Precut For Your Car

We plot patterns for your exact model and fit them without cutting on the vehicle, edges wrapped around panel folds. Film brands, coverage maps and the finer detail all live on our paint protection film page. There is more on prestige detailing if you want the specifics.

Common Questions

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers before you book. Anything else, call 1800 985 880.

Does stone chip film really stop chips?

Yes, within reason. The urethane absorbs and spreads the impact of typical road stones so paint underneath stays intact. An exceptional strike can mark the film, and a marked film section is replaceable, a chipped panel is not.

Is this the same thing as PPF?

Same product. Stone chip protection film, clear bra and PPF are all names for clear polyurethane paint film. What differs is film quality and installer skill, which is where quotes vary.

Can I just film the bonnet?

You can, but chips land on bumpers and mirrors just as often, so a bonnet only job tends to disappoint. The front end package covers the full strike zone for a proper result.

Will the film peel or bubble?

Not when fitted properly. Peeling edges and bubbles are installation faults, not film faults. Our installs are precut, edge wrapped and warranted for ten years against yellowing and cracking.

What happens if a filmed panel gets chipped?

The film takes the hit and you replace that section of film, not the paint. It is a workshop visit measured in hours, versus days and colour matching risk at a panel shop.
