Liquid R Recommended Washing Method

The wash routine that keeps film and coatings in warranty condition: touchless pre-rinse, pH neutral shampoo, two buckets and a clean microfibre dry. The routine is the same on a Mazda hatch or a Ford SUVs. The full step by step guide from our workshop team is being finalised and will be published here.

Why Ceramic Coatings Need Maintenance

A coating is sacrificial. Road film, traffic fallout and bore water minerals sit on top of it, and if they are never washed off they slowly blind the coating‘s water behaviour. Maintenance keeps the coating working instead of just present. Daily drivers like a BYD or GWM collect that film fastest.

How to Maintain a Ceramic Coating

Wash fortnightly with a pH neutral shampoo, never through a brush car wash. Dry the panels rather than letting them air dry, and top up with a compatible ceramic booster every few months. Book a decontamination wash yearly. A dark Mercedes shows a skipped wash first. Coated boats want a fresh water rinse after every salt outing.

Why PPF Needs Maintenance

Film shrugs off stone hits, but its clear surface still collects the same fallout as paint. Left dirty, contamination bakes in at the edges and against seams. A clean film self-heals better and stays invisible on the panel. That holds for the filmed front of a Tesla as much as any other EV.

How to Maintain PPF

Wash as you would a coated car and keep pressure washer tips a hand span from film edges. Lift bird droppings and sap promptly. Water spots that survive a wash come out with a dedicated PPF cleaner, or in minutes at our counter. On a fully wrapped Porsche 911 the edge rule applies to every panel. After a dirt road run, rinse a filmed 4WD before the mud dries.

How to Maintain Colour PPF

Same rules as clear film with one addition: satin and matte finishes must never be polished or waxed with gloss products. Use matte safe products only, and let self-healing handle fine scratches with warm water or sunshine. A matte wrapped Ford Raptor follows the same rule.

Interior Leather and Fabric After Protection

Coated seats still want a monthly wipe with a damp microfibre. Blot spills instead of rubbing, skip silicone dressings and aggressive cleaners, and the coating keeps beading coffee and sunscreen for years.

Alloy Wheels After Protection

Coated wheels rinse clean of brake dust with water and a soft mitt. Skip acid wheel cleaners entirely, they are what the coating is protecting the alloy from. Heavy dusting cars like the BMW M2, M3 and M4 gain the most. A yearly reapplication on the faces keeps the barrels easy.

Common Questions

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers before you book. Anything else, call 1800 985 880.

How soon after PPF or coating can I wash the car?

Wait seven days after film and 48 hours after a ceramic coating. Both need time to fully cure before shampoo and water pressure touch them.

Can I take a protected car through an automatic car wash?

Touchless washes are fine. Brush washes are not: the brushes carry grit from every car before yours and will mar coatings and film edges. Hand washing remains the standard we warranty against.

What shampoo should I use?

Any pH neutral car shampoo without wax or gloss additives. Dishwashing liquid and degreasers strip coating toppers and dry out film edges, so keep them away from the car entirely.

How do I deal with water spots?

Fresh spots come off with a normal wash and a dry. Etched mineral spots need a dedicated remover, and on PPF we recommend letting our counter handle it rather than rubbing compounds into the film.

Do satin and matte finishes need special products?

Yes. Nothing labelled gloss, wax or polish should touch a satin or matte surface, film or paint. Matte safe washes and sealants keep the sheen even, and polishing would leave permanent shiny patches.

Is there a free checkup after the work?

Yes. Every PPF and colour film job includes a complimentary inspection in the first month, and we recommend a yearly look over film edges and coating performance after that. Booking takes a phone call.
