Gelcoat has a harder life than car paint: UV all day on open water, salt drying onto it and stone spray off the trailer on the way home. Once gelcoat oxidises it goes chalky, and it does not recover on its own. Gelcoat Is Not Paint
Gelcoat is pigmented resin, more porous than automotive clear coat, and it chalks as UV breaks it down. That oxidation needs machine correction before any protection goes on, otherwise you are sealing a dull surface under a clear layer. Hull Ceramic Coating
A marine grade ceramic coating bonds to corrected gelcoat and keeps salt, scum lines and UV from getting their teeth in. Wash-downs after a day on the bay drop from an hour of scrubbing to a rinse and wipe. The same work is set out for the Porsche 911 and Ferrari.
Trailer Road Damage
The trip to the ramp is often harder on a hull than the water is. Towing throws stones at the bow and the leading chines, and paint protection film on those strike zones takes the chips a bare hull would keep. The same work is set out for the BMW M cars and Mercedes.
Oxidation Correction
Chalky, faded gelcoat usually cuts back beautifully with the right compounds and a machine, the marine equivalent of paint correction. We assess how far gone the surface is before quoting, since gelcoat thickness varies boat to boat.
Trailer Boats at the Workshop
We work on trailerable boats at our Cook Road workshop in Mitcham: tinnies, half cabins, ski boats and centre consoles on their trailers. If it tows legally, it fits. Larger vessels are assessed case by case.

Usually, yes. Oxidised gelcoat machine polishes back to gloss provided enough material remains. We check condition and thickness first, then correct and coat in the one booking so the fresh surface is protected immediately.
We coat above the waterline where UV and salt do their damage. Antifoul is a different system for a different job and we leave it to the marine yards. The two coexist happily on the same hull.
