Paint Protection Film Melbourne

Car Paint Protection Film in Melbourne

The first stone chip on a new car stings more than the repair bill. Paint protection film is the one product that physically stops chips: a clear urethane layer, roughly the thickness of a business card, that takes the hit so your paint never does. Liquid R installs PPF at our Mitcham workshop using precut patterns matched to your exact model.

Coverage is a budget decision rather than all or nothing. Options start at $180 for headlight film and run to $5980 for every painted panel, and each level has its own card below, alongside the rest of our paint protection range.

Every film we fit carries the manufacturer’s warranty plus our own workmanship guarantee. If you are weighing film against a coating, the short version: film stops chips, a coating makes the car easier to keep clean, and a lot of our customers run both.

Headlight Protection Film

Polycarbonate lenses yellow under UV and pit on gravel roads. A precut layer of headlight film from Defcon Films Australia keeps them clear and saves the cost of replacement units. Fitted in under an hour while you wait.

Wear and Tear PPF Pack

Covers the panels that cop daily abuse: door edges, door cups, sill strips, boot ledge and luggage area. The cheapest way to stop the small marks a trade-in inspector looks for first.

Front End PPF Pack

Full bonnet, front bumper, guards, mirrors and headlights in self-healing film. The pack most Melbourne drivers choose, because freeway gravel hits the front third of the car almost exclusively.

Choose the panels you want protected to suit your vehicle, needs and budget. Common picks are bonnet only, bumper only, or A pillars and roof edge for highway commuters. Call 1800 985 880 for a price on the spot.

PPF Ceramic Coating

A ceramic layer applied over the film in the same booking. Water sheets off, road grime releases with less scrubbing, and the film holds its gloss between washes. Pairs with any pack above.

Interior PPF

Gloss piano black consoles and screen surrounds scratch from fingernails and keys within months of delivery. Optically clear interior film protects these trim pieces without changing how they look or feel.

Gloss PPF

Crystal clear gloss film deepens the look of factory paint while it protects. On a well polished dark car the film edge is close to invisible. We fit gloss films from DFA and STEK, matched to the paint.

Satin and Matte PPF

Turns gloss factory paint into a satin finish, or shields factory matte paint that can never be polished. The film takes the damage a matte respray could not affordably fix.

Coloured PPF

Change the colour and protect the paint in a single layer with the DFA Spectra Colour PPF range. Finishes, pricing and the full colour wall are on our Colour Transformation page.

How Self-Healing PPF Works

The film is urethane with an elastic top coat. Light scratches and wash swirls sit in that top layer, and warmth from the sun or a bucket of warm water relaxes it back to smooth. What it cannot heal is a cut that goes through the film, which is exactly the damage that would otherwise be in your paint.

Precut Patterns, Not Freehand Blades

Patterns are plotter-cut for your exact make and model, whether that is a SUVs or a Porsche 911, before the film touches the car, so no blade is ever run against your paint. Edges are wrapped rather than trimmed short, which is why our installs do not lift at the car wash a month later. Precut also means faster turnaround than hand-templating.

What the Film Actually Stops

Stone chips are the headline, but day to day the film also wears the bug acid, bird droppings, tar spots and trolley scuffs that slowly sand a front end back to dull. Premium film is UV stable, so it does the job for years without yellowing or hazing over the paint it protects.

PPF or Ceramic Coating?

Different tools. Film is physical armour against impact. A ceramic coating is chemistry: gloss, stain resistance and easy washing, with no impact protection at all. If the budget only stretches to one, match it to your risk: freeway kilometres favour film, garaged weekend cars favour coating.

New Car? Film First, Then Coat

Film bonds best on paint with zero road history, so the ideal booking is straight from the dealership before the first freeway run. We photograph any delivery defects before covering them. EVs with soft factory paint benefit most, which is why our Tesla page exists, and packages that combine film with coating start on the packages page.

Beyond Cars: 4WDs, Boats, Bikes

The same film protects gear that works harder than a sedan: 4WD flares and bonnet leading edges before an outback trip, boat hulls and gelcoat against salt and fender rub, motorcycle tanks against jacket zips, caravan fronts against the stone spray they cop towing. If it has a painted or gelcoat surface, we can pattern it.

Warranty and Lifespan

The films we install are warranted by their manufacturers against yellowing, cracking and peeling, and we back the installation itself in writing. Live with sensible washing and the film protects for years; when it has done its job, it comes off and the paint underneath is as it was the day we covered it.

Care, Removal and Resale

Wash a filmed car like a coated one: pH neutral shampoo, no stiff brushes, keep pressure washers off the edges. Removal is a workshop job with heat, and it leaves factory paint intact. That is the resale story in one line: the next owner gets a front end that never met the freeway. Day to day film care is covered on our aftercare page.

Common Questions

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers before you book. Anything else, call 1800 985 880.

Does PPF damage the paint when it comes off?

No. Professionally removed film releases with heat and leaves the factory paint as it was when covered. What damages paint is amateur removal with scrapers or leaving a failed bargain film on for years, which is why we only fit warranted brands.

How long does paint protection film last?

The manufacturers warrant the films we install against yellowing, cracking and peeling for years, and with normal washing they serve out that period comfortably. Exposure matters: a carport car keeps its film looking new longer than one parked on the street.

Can you see the film on the car?

Clear gloss film is effectively invisible once fitted: edges are wrapped, patterns are cut for your model, and the gloss matches the paint. Visitors to the workshop routinely cannot tell a filmed front end from bare paint until we point at the edge.

Should I get PPF or a ceramic coating?

Film stops impact damage, a coating makes the car easier to keep clean. They solve different problems, which is why the most popular setup is film on the front and a coating over everything. If you must choose, choose by risk: high kilometres means film first.

What vehicles can you wrap in PPF?

Anything with a painted or gelcoat surface: SUVs, SUVs and utes, 4WDs before touring, motorcycles, boats and caravans. Patterns exist for most models, and anything without one we template in the workshop.

How long does installation take?

Small coverage like door cups is usually done within the day. A full front is typically a one to two day booking, and a full car runs several days because panels and edges are wrapped, not rushed. We confirm timing when you book.
