Car Paint Protection Melbourne

Car Paint Protection in Melbourne

Modern cars leave the factory with thinner paint than the cars they replace, and Melbourne roads collect their toll on it quickly. Protection is no longer a luxury add-on; it is how a new car stays looking new past its first year.

Liquid R runs Melbourne’s largest protection and detailing centre: over 1,000 square metres in Mitcham, ten working bays, operating since 2015. Every protection method lives under this one roof, which means the advice is about your car, not about what a small shop happens to sell.

Two tools do most of the work: film for impacts, coating for everything else. This page routes you to the right one, and packages from $1090 combine them for new cars.

Film: the Armour Layer

Self-healing urethane film physically absorbs stone strikes, scuffs and bug etch on the panels that cop them. It is the only product that prevents chips rather than just making the car easier to wash afterwards. Quick cars like the BMW M2, M3 and M4 collect those chips fastest. Coverage and pricing from $180 to full-car live on the PPF page.

Coating: the Chemistry Layer

A ceramic coating bonds with the clear coat to add gloss, chemical resistance and a surface water simply falls off. Washing gets faster, UV stops dulling the colour, and contaminants release instead of etching. The full picture, including what coatings cannot do, is on the coating page.

Packages for New Cars

For a car fresh off the truck, the packages do the choosing for you: five levels from $1090 to $4090 that stack decontamination, correction, Gtechniq coating, interior protection, 3M tint and partial film in a sensible order. Details and inclusions are on the packages page.

Which Does Your Car Need?

Run the diagnostic: high freeway kilometres or a car you plan to keep points to film first. Garaged, gently driven, or a lease you will hand back favours coating alone. Dark colours show swirls and love coatings; light colours show chips and love film. Soft painted EVs lean towards film too. Undecided is normal, and a five minute chat sorts it.

Most Cars End Up With Both

The most common result after that chat: film across the front third where stones land, coating over the whole car including the film. The film stops the impacts, the coating keeps every panel easy to live with, and the two products are designed to work layered exactly that way. On a supercar the film usually goes full body.

Tint Belongs in the Plan

Paint is not the only surface Melbourne summers attack. 3M window film from $495 cuts cabin heat, blocks 99% of UV and protects the interior from fading, and it is fitted in-house by accredited installers. The tinting page compares the three film series honestly.

Protection by Make and Model

Some cars have their own chapter. Tesla paint is soft enough that we wrote a dedicated Tesla protection page covering the models, the glass roof and the warranty questions. Dozens more guides are live on the make and model hub, from Porsche to the SUVs, and every make gets quoted individually.

Correction Before Protection

Protection seals in whatever finish is underneath it, so paint with swirls or water spots gets corrected first. Our detailing team stages correction to preserve clear coat, then the protection locks in the corrected finish. Sequence matters more than brand names here.

Wraps: Colour Plus Cover

If the plan includes changing the look, do it in the same booking: vinyl wraps deliver a new colour while shielding the factory paint, and coloured film versions add genuine chip protection. Wrap, film and coating can be combined panel by panel to suit the budget.

The Workshop Behind the Work

Ten bays mean a new car does not queue for weeks, indoor application means no dust in the coating and no weather calls, and a decade of doing this since 2015 means the quotes are accurate. The same building handles mechanical servicing, so one drop-off can cover everything.

Warranties in Writing

Film carries its manufacturer’s warranty against yellowing, cracking and peeling. Gtechniq coatings carry theirs when applied by accredited hands, which ours are. On top of both sits our workmanship guarantee, in writing, from a workshop with a fixed address you can walk into.

Where to Start

Call 1800 985 880, text 0483 930 888, or bring the car to Mitcham and let us look at it with you; quotes come back within 24 hours. If the car is still at the dealership, even better: book before delivery and it arrives here with paint no road has touched. Details on the contact page.

Common Questions

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers before you book. Anything else, call 1800 985 880.

What is the best paint protection for a car?

The combination beats either alone: film on the impact panels, ceramic coating everywhere. If you must pick one, match it to the car’s life: film for kilometres and keepers, coating for garaged and gentle. Anyone who names one product for every car is selling that product.

Is paint protection worth the money?

Weigh it against the alternative: a respray costs multiples of a protection package and never matches factory paint, and a chipped, dull car loses more at trade-in than protection ever cost. For new cars especially, it is cheaper to keep paint perfect than to make it perfect again.

Can I protect a used car, or only new ones?

Used cars are protected here every week. The difference is a correction step first, so the protection seals in a corrected finish rather than the wear. The result on a three year old car routinely beats what it looked like at handover.

What does paint protection cost?

Film runs from $180 for high-wear spots to $5980 for a full car. Coating-led new car packages run $1090 to $4090. Tint starts at $495. Every job is quoted fixed before the car is booked, so the number you approve is the number you pay.

How long does paint protection last?

Film is warranted for years by its manufacturer and typically outlives an ownership. Coatings protect for two to five years, longer with the right wash routine. Neither is a forever product; both are measured against a respray that starts failing the day it leaves the booth.

Film and coating: can they go together?

They are designed to. Film goes on the panels first, coating goes over the entire car, film included. The coating makes the film easier to keep clean and the film stops what the coating never could. Layered is the default recommendation, not the upsell.
